She has extensive theoretical and practical experience in leadership, decision-making and in international commercial arbitration. Bio: Dr. Nehal Al-Awlaqi is a former Minister of Legal Affairs in the Republic of Yemen. As a political and academic expert, she started her career as a university professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Aden. She won the International Prize for Courage in 2016, presented by the US State Department for women who have contributed to making major transformations in their countries, in recognition of her active participation in the nation-building team at the National Dialogue Conference, in which she presented research papers - scientific and political - on state building axes (Structure of the state, the legislative authority, the judiciary, the administrative system, and the electoral system ...).

In addition to her effective contribution to the Constitution Drafting Committee, by participating in the management of the work team and the preparation of the draft of the Federal Constitution of the Republic of Yemen, she also assumed the position of Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Drafting the Federal Constitution of the Republic of Yemen. 

She was a key member of the Yemeni government’s delegation in the peace negotiations (Switzerland / Biel Round and Kuwait Round) that took place between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Houthi rebel group in 2015-2017 under the auspices of the United Nations. 

Dr. Nehal Al-Awlaki championed the quota for women (by no less than 30%) in political participation and leadership in the three state authorities, leading to the full participation of Yemeni women in political, economic and social life. Her passion for defending women's rights began early on in her life through the Women's Center for Training and Rehabilitation at the University of Aden, through which she organised seminars, workshops and conferences to support the women's quota program. The struggle for defending women’s rights continued through her involvement in the National Dialogue Conference and the Constitution Drafting Committee. 

Dr. Al-Awlaqi contributed to the regional and international discourse on the region's priorities through participating in conferences and seminars in various fields, human rights and politics, especially with regard to women's advocacy and peacemaking. Furthermore, she was a founding member of the Forum for Women in Politics in the Arab Region (Middle East and North Africa). 

Through her assumption of the Ministry of Legal Affairs 2016-2020, she worked to protect constitutional legality, order, law and public funds by controlling government work in accordance with the law and protecting the interests and rights of the state, especially in disputes with international commercial companies considered before international arbitration courts, and raising the level of community legal awareness. 

Nehal Al-Awlaqi, was an A student throughout his life, in highschool she was the second top student at the national level. She holds a doctorate degree in law sciences and a diploma in crisis management from the Diplomat Preparation Academy in France. She also obtained a certificate of experience in the field of international commercial arbitration.
