Bio:  Eshraq Al-maqtari (@EshraqAlmaqtar) is a lawyer and activist in the field of protecting and promoting human rights in Yemen since 2005. She is now serving as the spokesperson and investigative judge in the National Committee for Investigation of Human Rights Violations since 2015. This committee investigates violations committed by all parties to the war in Yemen. In this regard, Eshraq participated during these years in writing eight comprehensive periodic reports on the results of the investigation into human rights violations in Yemen. She is also the coordinator of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights in Yemen since 2010, in addition to being the director of the legal department at the Yemeni Women Union in Taiz. 

Previously, she worked as a director for the legal protection and advocacy program implemented by Oxfam in partnership with branches of the Yemeni Women's Union. Her role was to provide legal advice and follow-up to 45 lawyers and advocates who provide free legal aid to detained women, prisoners, and victims of violence between 2006 and 2013. During this program, more than a thousand prisoners were released and legal procedures were corrected in hundreds of women in personal status cases. She also worked as an officer for the protection program and the women's access to justice program at Oxfam from 2010 to 2015. 

Eshraq is one of the most prominent trainers at the regional level in national and international mechanisms for the protection of human rights. She is a member of the training team with a number of international and local organizations, including Friedrich Ebert, the Information Center for Human Rights, the Bar Association, and the National Forum for Human Rights and the Family Welfare Association. 

During her career, she has trained hundreds of law enforcers (security, judiciary, prosecution, prison staff, nursing homes and juveniles) in the governorates of Hadramout, Ibb, Taiz, Al-Amanah, Hodeidah, Aden, Lahj and Hajjah on the protection of human rights. She has also trained dozens of civil society organizations in Yemen in this field. 

Eshraq has participated in national, regional and international conferences in combating violence against women, enforced disappearances, and the rights of the child, in addition to writing a number of working papers on discriminatory laws against women, obstacles to women's work, women's political rights, and preparing booklets and studies on gender-based violence, and a guide for monitoring and documenting human rights violations. 

In recognition of its continuous efforts in the field of human rights advocacy, Eshraq was honored by the Ministry of Human Rights, the Governor of Taiz and the Humanitarian Relief Coalition in Taiz, with a number of certificates of thanks and honorary shields for its pioneering efforts and contributions in the field in the field of human rights and humanitarian work. 

She participated in the establishment of a number of civil society organizations in Taiz, Aden and Mukalla, including: Al-Haq Organization, NED Human Rights Organization and Defense for Rights and Freedoms. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of a number of civil society organizations, including the Yemeni Observatory for Human Rights and the Wujud Foundation for Human Security. Eshraq has a Bachelor of Sharia and Law from Sana'a University and a Master of Law A year from Assiut University in 2008.
