The Women Solidarity Network strongly condemns the murder of a woman (Samiha Alasadi) in the hands of her brother by stabbing her to death. The crime happened during a court proceeding where she was trying to revoke the guardianship of her male relatives to get married. We strongly condemn that the crime happened during the day in the court a place for people to seek justice.

We hold the de facto authorities responsible for failing to protect the victim. We consider this an accursed offense, as such we urgently call for arresting the perpetrator and prosecute him through a fair trial. We consider this case a case of all women in Yemen.

We call on ending the guardianship laws in Yemen, respecting the international conventions including the CEDAW, and to give women their full and complete rights in marriage without guardianship. We call on the media outlets and NGOs to spread awareness about human rights and ending violence against women.
