The Women's Solidarity Network launches this urgent appeal to save the people of Al-Mahra, Socotra and Hadramout due to the tropical storm and hurricane Loban.

The governor of al-Mahra Mr.Rajeh Bakrit, , declared it a disaster area, where heavy rains and floods swept houses, destroyed homes and led to the displacement of many families to schools. About 50 families are still stuck on roofs of the Masila area.

There is a breakdown of all services, including communications, and almost complete absence of media monitoring of the disaster, except for individual messages, which suggests a greater catastrophe than available information.

The Women's Solidarity Network calls on the legitimate government, the coalition and international and regional organizations, including United Nations organizations working in the field of relief, to intervene quickly to rescue and assist families in the affected areas and to:

- Evacuate families and rescue the survivor’s in the affected areas and support displaced families to provide adequate shelter and basic relief needs and to protect the safety of citizens by the catastrophe that isolated them

- We call upon the United Nations to declare a contingency fund for the affected areas of the hurricane and to prepare an emergency relief plan to respond immediately to the needs in the affected areas

- Support the governorates that are exposed to hurricane disasters with early warning mechanisms

- Establishment of a fund for reconstruction and compensation of citizens due to the destruction of houses caused by hurricanes

- Since Yemen is a conflict zone, it makes it difficult to assume it as a state capable to handle this disaster and it is the responsibility of the international, regional community to support and assist in alleviating the suffering of the people
